Aims

By the end of this session you should be able to:

  • Identify some ideas as to what distinguishes care as Christian

  • Define pastoral care

  • Use a number of Bible passages to reflect on pastoral care as creative and relational

  • Consider the extent to which pastoral care is part of God’s mission

  • Understand and outline the history of pastoral care in the church

.

Prayer

Blessed are you Lord our God,

for you come to us and seek to make your home in us.

As we study now,

let our eyes and our ears be open to you

let our hearts find their rest and their joy in you

that we may grow in grace and live to your glory.

Blessed are you, Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.

Amen.

You can find the programme for the day here. The handouts for the day are in the Resources section below.

In-Person Shared Learning Morning

This day is in person at St Barnabas Centre, Pilsley Rd, Danesmoor, Clay Cross, Chesterfield, S45 9BU. There will be a 45 minute break between Sessions 2 & 3 for you to have lunch together (please bring your own packed lunch), drinks will be provided.

Please bring a Bible.

TUTORIALS NEW SYSTEM

Please note that rather than being allocated to a tutor group you will now need to sign up on the Forum for tutorials each week. There is a new category called 'PASTORAL CARE TUTORIALS' and the tutors will post the dates and times they are offering on this forum. Each week they will post a Zoom link. Please post 'I'll be coming' on this board under the Zoom link for each tutorial you wish to attend. If no-one signs up the tutorial will probably be cancelled so please make sure you do sign up. While tutorials are not compulsory, they are incredibly helpful to support you in your learning so please try to attend at least 5 over the course of the module.
