Assignment

The outcomes we are assessing in this assignment are:

  1. ​The ability to discuss diverse Old Testament texts intelligently and place them within their broader contexts.

  2. The ability to understand and apply some of the underlying concepts, methods and tools associated with the study of the Old Testament

  3. The ability to identify the context and genre of selected biblical texts, and comment intelligently on their significance for the texts’ interpretation.

  4. The ability to challenge your own perceptions and preconceptions of an Old Testament text.

  5. The ability to apply OT texts to life today in general, as well as to your ministry and its particular context.

  6. The ability to gather, organise and present materials for a set task within the perameters described (ie deadline dates and timings / word count).

  7. The ability to reference correctly and include a bibliography.

You must cover all the above outcomes in order to pass. Higher marks will be given for clarity of expression and structure, interesting engagement with the relevant material, and depth of cirtical thinking and theological reflection. Please refer to the Assignnment Handbook here before you start.

Option 1 - Project

Ensuring you cover all the above outcomes, in no fewer than 2300 words and no more than 2500 words, create a bible study resource that gives an overview of the book of Amos. Conclude with a reflection on how its message applies to our world today and your specific ministry and context.

Option 2 - Presentation

Ensuring you cover all the above outcomes, create and deliver a 25 to 30 minute presentation for a small group giving an overview of the book of Amos and its main themes. At least 10 minutes of the presentation should focus on how the message of the book applies to our world today and the group to whom you are presenting.

Option 3 - Exegesis

Ensuring you cover all the above outcomes, write an exegesis of no fewer than 2300 words and no more than 2,500 words, on the creation story in the book of Genesis. End with a theologica refelction on how its message applies to our world today and your specific ministry and context.
