When in church listen for words that suggest creation - i have considered this in ts widest context of making and renewal
We heard Collect for second Sunday of Epiphany
'Almighty God in Christ you make all things new: transform the poverty of our nature by the riches of your grace and in the renewal of our lives make known your heavenly glory :.......' Christine Hayes also talks about Adam and Eve being fashioned from clay but then god breathing Ruach (wind ...maybe later understood as spirit ) into them. For me this means human evolution and biblical understanding of a creator God quite compatible as the biblical tradition describes the life we receive in and through God
We also read from Isaiah 491-7 which contains a great deal of imagery about birth and the womb 'The Lord called me before I was born...he made my mouth like a sharp sword, he made me a polished arrow.....the Lord....who formed me in the womb to be his servant....
Emphasises the close relationship the ANE peoples would have had with birth and death and their interest like ours ..in how things came to be
Alison - you may want to move this post to a different category? I think there is a separate OT discussion area with its own category.
