Nothing highlights mans fall more than our stewardship of Gods creation. In Genesis chapter 1 God gave us dominion over all things on earth as a result we are now on the brink of destroying the entire planet. Mans greed has been the driving force behind this destruction tske any one of our natural resources and man has exploited it just for the sake of profit. Take wood for instance man first used it for warmth and light not such a drain on our huge forests. Fast forward to today and our rain forests are being destroyed on a industrial scale. The lungs of the world been torn apart just for the sake of profit. The same can be said for all of our natural resources be it coal, gas, oil, you name it and if theres money to be made out of it weve exploited it until that resource has been totally drained just for the sake of a profit.
But if you take nuclear power thats where man really shows his true colours a limitless supply of energy if used in the right way but what do we do with this resource we see another use for it put it in a bomb and destroy your enemies in a instant. Theres many countries around the world that are capable of destroying Gods creation and everything on it in a split second. God really must despair of us.
So what we as christians do about this the problem is enormous it feels like whatever we do will be too little too late. i feel quite sad writing this because i can't see a way back from this I can only pray and for gods help and guidance to get us out of this.
sorry for being so negative but thats how i feel Chris
Hi Chris
It can be so overwhelming to think about when the issue is so huge.
We can feel paralysed and helpless about issues that seem so serious and far gone.
What you have written sounds like a lament of your soul about the state of the planet, maybe God is showing you something of his heart about this situation. It's good to be honest - God knows your heart anyway so bring your care and despair to him.
Turning your despair into prayer is always a good place to start.

It is an area that troubles me greatly Chris, God gave us stewardship of his creation and despite sending his son to put us back on track (plenty of examples in the old testament of how we failed) we still struggle and are on course for the sixth mass extinction event unless we make radical changes. Perhaps that is the inevitable outcome - we humans disappear and the world heals itself. but I hope not, there are plenty of people and organizations that do good (just reading the news this week about more protection for our oceans) and humanity is slowing realizing things need to change.
The church has a massive role to play in tackling this challenge - both as an influential body itself, but also through it's congregations - links to the changing role of the church in working in areas such as the environment (i.e. eco church) to change behaviours - I am an optimist, and do think that if enough of us change our behaviours, then we have hope.
Hi Chris, well said. I think we all get overwhelmed at the enormity of the problem and the apparent 'hopelessness' of the situation. As a scientist, and a Christian, I get angry at the way we have ravaged our world, and the lack of commitment from politicians to do something meaningful about it. There are solutions, perhaps not too all of the problems, not yet, but the desire to do anything is tempred by money and greed. The earth will survive, it will find a new equilibrium, but as well as destroying habitats and making plants and animals extinct, we just might make it so uninhabitable that we make ourselves extinct at the same time. I don't think this is what God wants.
