Having read all 4 bible readings I was amazed at how much these amazing people had the faith they have
Abraham was in his 70s and left everything to go to the land God was to show him. He didn't really know where he was going.
Reflecting on this, could I do this, could I imagine just leaving everything to follow God and is my faith strong enough?
Samuel was so afraid of the lord in awe, to tell Eli what he had said. The lord spoke to him like he did with Abraham. Samuel heard a familiar voice thinking it was Eli. Reflecting on this why did God use a similar voice could it of been to make it less frightening to Samuel?
An Angel told Mary not to be afraid and that she was favoured and will have a son called Jesus the son of the most high.
Peter tried to catch fish before Jesus told him to lower his fishing nets. Peter had faith to trust Jesus and do as he was told. He then caught massive amounts of fish needing now 2 boats.
This is linked to absolute faith in the lord and they all obayed. I think the key message has to be 100% faith.
After listening to the Billy Elliot song I thought about the type of God gifted talented people who are born young with potential, such as young artists who are great at drawing, singers at a young age and young talented musicians, a vocational calling gifted by God.
Reflecting on salt and light I believe being a representation of Christ is important. To approach people with love and kindness regardless of diversity etc. Always giving people your help and understanding. This reflects in my work as a nursery nurse, wether it's a child crying, a parent worried or a member of staff upset, I always listen and respond with an open heart.
A light filled special person I can think of to do with church reminds me a lot of Abraham. Although a much younger person, God told them to leave where they were and move hours away from there home. This move would impact on there family, friends, work, child's schooling, finances. However this person had the faith and followed God's calling.
That's a great example of a light filled person Alicia - I tried to imagine what Abraham must have felt when he was asked to leave so much behind (at a fairly advanced age) but he did it as he had faith in what God asked him to do.
You have perhaps identified a person you could interview for your assignment, do you think? Martin.
Hi Alicia,
Thank you for your reflection. I think 'salty' people can't hep but shine! Like you I try to reflect love and kindness in my workplace with children, parents and teachers. But, we also need to remember to be kind and compassionate to ourselves. I wear a Wonder Woman lego figure on my lanyard at work, the children love it, but I can't do everything or be everthing to everybody. If we can't be kind to ourselves, I don't believe we can meet others with compassion. Sorry if I'm digressing... I just needed to get that out.
